Job Seekers Unwrap Summer Employment During Holiday Job Fair: Successful Visitor Industry Hiring Gives Prospective Employees Jump on Summer Season

Anchorage, Alaska – Dec. 20, 2007 – Are you asking Santa to find you a new job in the New Year? Eager job seekers home for the holidays can find rewarding summer employment at the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) 9th Annual Holiday Break Visitor Industry Job Fair, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., at the Egan Center.

“All of the big companies will be on hand looking to hire,” says Steve Halloran, ACVB vice president of Community, Member & Visitor Relations. “Major industry companies like to finish their hiring process by March. The job fair is the perfect early opportunity for qualified candidates and companies to connect.”

Last year, more than 500 job seekers interviewed with 30 employers at the Visitor Industry Job Fair.

“This is the place to meet and hire qualified candidates,” says Jennifer Paul, operations manager for Personnel Plus. “We were able to hire several qualified, excited applicants for our busy temporary season at the fair.”

Several companies have already registered for the Visitor Industry Job Fair. The list includes: Alaska Coach Tours, Morris Communications, Nana Management Services, Premier Alaska Tours, Princess Tours, Holland America, Enterprise Rent-a-Car and Alaska Airlines.

Employers interested in participating can register online at http://www.Anchorage.net/rsvp or by calling Kari Coleman at (907) 257-2321.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB), Anchorage Chamber of Commerce, and the Alaska Travel Industry Association (ATIA) Anchorage Chapter sponsor the job fair. The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund and one-third goes to the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center construction project. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
