What is a GPS?

A GPS unit (Global Positioning Satellite) is an electronic device that can determine approximate location (within 6 - 20 feet) on the planet. Coordinates are normally given in Longitude and Latitude. Use the unit to navigate from your current location to another location. Geocaching or Waymarking is fun, easy and a great family adventure.

What is Geocaching?

Geocaching is an adventure game for GPS users. The basic idea is to have individuals and organizations set up caches all over the world and share the locations of these caches on the internet. GPS users follow the location coordinates to find the caches. Once found, a cache provides a wide variety of rewards. The word Geocaching broken out is GEO for geography, and CACHING for the process of hiding a cache. The rules are very simple: take something from the cache container, leave something in the cache container, and write about it in the logbook. Where you place a cache is up to you!

What is Waymarking?

A waymark is a physical location on the planet marked by coordinates (latitude/longitude) and contains unique information defined within its waymark category.

What is the difference between Geocaching and Waymarking?

In Geocaching, it's all about the hunt and the treasure (a cache container) at the end. With Waymarking, the location, itself, is the treasure. The primary difference is that no physical object is placed when creating a waymark.
