Event Alert: Students To Vie For Cool Prizes in Wild About Anchorage Trivia Contest

Who:
- Forty-two seventh graders from seven Anchorage schools will test their hometown knowledge in the 15th annual Wild About Anchorage Trivia Contest, Thursday, April 26, 2007, from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the William A. Egan Civic & Convention Center. The event is free and open to the public.
What:
- Students study questions about Anchorage then face off against their peers. Judges include KGOT Radio’s Scott and Stu; last year’s winner from Goldenview Middle School, Samuel; Sharon Sellens, who established the school business partnership with the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) 15 years ago; and Rosey Fletcher, Olympian and community relations specialist for the Municipality of Anchorage. KOOL Radio’s Cary Carrigan will serve as event moderator. Several area businesses are providing prizes, including Alaska Aviation Heritage Museum, The Bake Shop, Bovey Trophies, Café D’Arte, Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott, Imaginarium, Moose’s Tooth, Snow City Café, Tastee Freez, Title Wave Books, and Uncle Joe’s Pizzeria. Sample questions:
- How tall is Flattop Mountain?
- How many inches of snowfall does Anchorage receive on average during the winter?
- Which of the nation’s fastest growing sports is low impact and can burn up to 1,000 calories per hour?
- Grandview Valley and the historic “loop district” offer incredible views of which three glaciers?

Why:
- The Wild About Anchorage Trivia Contest is a fun way for students to learn more about the city and the important role tourism plays as an economic engine for Anchorage.
The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (ACVB) mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund and one-third goes to the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center construction project. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
