Theme: - Celebrate Alaska’s Diversity. Several hundred people are expected to attend opening ceremonies for the 2007 U.S. Alpine Championships at Alyeska Resort on Friday, March 30, 2007.
Talent: The event kick offs the Championships and welcomes an impressive list of athletes, including Ted Ligety, Julia Mancuso, Lindsey Kildow and Bode Miller. - Alaska Native singers and dancers, including internationally renown Pamyua, will entertain crowds with their soulful and contemporary music.
- Kicaput (“Our Anchor”) Singers and Dancers will also perform traditional songs of the Yup’ik and Cup’ik people.
- Imamsuat (“People of the Sea”), a multi-generational group of Sugpiaq (Alutiiq) people, will share songs of family history and traditions, passed down from generation to generation.
- Emcee and Olympic bronze medal winner, Rosey Fletcher, will welcome athletes, officials and fans.
- An athlete parade, comprised of regional and national teams, will lead a procession to the finishing area located by the Daylodge.
- Dog sled teams will transport select athletes and VIPs to the finishing area.
- U.S.S.A. President Bill Marolt will welcome the crowd, followed by the Skiers Award Presentation for male and female athlete of the year.
- A colorful fireworks display will illuminate the evening skies, culminating the event with a bang.
