Anchorage Ranked Number Six by Carlson Wagonlit

Anchorage, Alaska – Feb. 2, 2007 – Carlson Wagonlit recently published their 2007 Travel Trends Survey, with Anchorage, Alaska, ranked number six in a list of top 10 domestic destinations. Las Vegas came in first, while Miami was ranked number seven behind Anchorage. In 2006 Anchorage ranked number six as well, tying with Phoenix.

The 2007 Travel Trends Survey was conducted Nov. 28 – Dec. 15, 2006, with a record 507 Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate owners, managers and frontline agents throughout the United States participating. The survey asked participants to forecast the most popular U.S. destinations for 2007 based on actual bookings to date.

“The Wagonlit survey reported that clients are feeling more confident about traveling farther from home,” said Bruce Bustamante, Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) president and CEO. “This bodes well for travel to Alaska, which is often thought of as a trip of a lifetime. In reality, Anchorage is as easily accessed as destinations in the Lower 48 states.”

In another Carlson Wagonlit list reporting the Top Five Cruise Destinations in 2007, Alaska was ranked second, with the Caribbean (Western) coming in first. Alaska received the same ranking in 2006.

Anchorage has recently received high rankings from other organizations as well – both the VirtualTourist.com Up-and-Comers Index and the Orbitz Insider Index ranked Anchorage number nine.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by one-third of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. One-third goes to the Municipality’s general fund and one-third goes to the Dena’ina Civic & Convention Center construction project. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
