The National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) Mid-Year Conference will take place in Anchorage, Alaska, June 10-13, 2007.
Typical conference topics include: Tribal sovereignty and self-determination, education, public safety, land and natural resource protection, veterans rights, economic and community development (e.g. 8(a) contracting), health, housing, transportation and other infrastructure, child and family welfare (e.g. suicide and substance abuse prevention), and Elder care.
In an effort to help plan for the 2007 NCAI Mid-Year Conference, more than 30 individuals representing Alaska Native tribes, regional for- and non-profits, village corporations, private businesses, and statewide non-profits joined the Local Planning Committee. The Local Planning Committee is responsible for planning several important components of the conference, including:
- Infusing Alaska Native culture and history into the conference
- Hosting a reception to welcome the conference attendees to Alaska
- Sponsoring a cultural celebration that showcases the beautiful and diverse cultures of Alaska’s first people
- Organizing the dozens of volunteers that are necessary to make the conference a success
- Coordinating (with NCAI staff) media coverage for the event
- Planning the grand entry and invocation for the start of the conference
- Sharing the beauty and adventure of Alaska through pre- and post-conference opportunities
The Local Planning Committee estimates that it will cost $45,000 to host the 2007 NCAI Mid-Year Conference. RurAL CAP has graciously agreed to house the funds for the NCAI Local Planning Committee. RurAL CAP has created a separate account for the Committee’s donations. Contributions can be mailed to:

In the unlikely event that the Local Planning Committee has funds left over after the conference, RurAL CAP will give all remaining funds to NCAI to support their efforts to promote the common welfare of American Indians and Alaska Natives.
If you have questions about the 2007 NCAI Mid-Year Conference, please contact Shauna Hegna, Local Planning Committee Chair, by phone at 907-865-7365.
