ACVB Wins 2005 Gold Service Award

News Release

Anchorage, Alaska – Sept. 29, 2005 – The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) is the proud recipient of the prestigious 2005 Gold Service Award presented by the Meetings & Conventions Magazine. This marks the 12th time ACVB has won this award.

The Gold Service Award recognizes convention and visitors bureaus that have excelled in professionalism and dedication in their service to meeting professionals. The magazine’s readers make selections based on key criteria, including professionalism of staff, support on hotels and site inspections, assistance with ground transportation planning, guidance on local attractions and liaison with local venders and services.

“I am very proud of the work and recognition of the ACVB staff in earning the Gold Service Award for 2005,” said Bruce Bustamante, ACVB president and CEO. “This award recognizes customer service and support provided by our organization and holds special meaning since it comes from our customers.”

ACVB has won the Gold Service Award annually since 1995. ACVB also won this award in 1993.

Conventions are a tremendous catalyst to the Anchorage economy. By the end of this year, 562 conventions, meetings and trade shows will have generated an estimated $83,135,116 for the Anchorage economy. ACVB Conventions Meetings Sales & Service (CMSS) team is currently booking conventions as far in advance as 2011. Some of the conventions booked in coming years include the American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics scheduled for September 2008 (estimated economic impact: $587,671), the Western Association of Student Financial Aid Administrator in April 2009 (E.E.I: $663,457), the Western States Communication Association scheduled for March 2010 (E.E.I: $616,191) and the Aerospace Medical Association in May 2011 (E.E.I: $1,793,141). Those four conventions alone will generate an estimated economic impact of $3,660,460 for the local economy.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage. ACVB’s marketing functions are funded by half of the bed tax collected by the lodging association. The other half goes to the Municipality’s general fund. ACVB receives no state or federal funds.
