Getting to Anchorage, Alaska

By Land

The scenic Alaska Highway links Alaska with Canada and the contiguous United States. It is fully paved with year-round services. Whether traveling by car, motorhome, or with a chartered tour, the journey to Alaska is often an adventure in itself.

By Sea

Whales breaching in the distance, porpoises swimming in adjacent to the ship, eagles soaring overhead are just a few sights cruise ship passengers can enjoy en route the famous Inside Passage to Southcentral Alaska. Several cruise lines offer excursions May through September, docking in nearby Whittier, Seward, Homer and even Anchorage. Port cities are connected to Anchorage by road, air or rail.

If cruises aren't what you are looking for, take a trip on the Alaska Marine Highway. They offer regularly scheduled ferry service for 33 communities in Alaska, plus Bellingham, Wash., and Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

By Air

By air, Anchorage, Alaska is nearly three hours from Seattle, five hours from Los Angeles or Chicago, and eight hours from Washington D.C. With connections from all over the world, and more than 280 flights arriving daily at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport, Anchorage serves as the gateway to Alaska.

Getting Around Anchorage
