SEAWOLVES DEFEND TITLE AT NYE FRONTIER CLASSIC

Hockey fans from across the nation will travel to Anchorage in October to catch top-rate college hockey in action. The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) hosts and defends their title at the 2004 Nye Frontier Classic, Oct. 15 - 16, 2004, at the Sullivan Arena. This year’s competing teams are the Minnesota Golden Gophers, Massachusetts Minutemen, the Canisius Griffs, and the host team UAA Seawolves.

“Hockey fans will see some of the top college teams in the country play in a world-class sports arena while visiting Anchorage during the beautiful fall season,” said Bruce Bustamante, president and CEO of the Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB).

The perennial national power Minnesota Golden Gophers will take on the highly rated Massachusetts, at 5 p.m., Friday Oct. 15, 2004, followed by UAA Seawolves against the Canisius Griffs at 8 p.m. Saturday’s third-place game begins at 4 p.m., followed by the semifinal winners squaring off for the title at 7 p.m.

UAA rounds out the Classic’s field of four teams. The Seawolves won the tournament in the 1988 – 89, 1990 – 91 and 2002 - 03 seasons. The Seawolves wont the 2003 title with one-goal victories over Air Force and UMass-Lowell.

The Anchorage Convention & Visitors Bureau’s mission is to attract and serve visitors to the Municipality of Anchorage.
