Wild Salmon on Parade

Salmon Lake, created by Heather and Megan Tauschek, represents poetry in motion. With brightly colored beads, flower garland, sparkling sequins, and ballerina tutu made made from the carpet of the Alaska Performing Arts Center, this fish reels of drama.
Salmon Run Wild through Downtown Anchorage
Each year, artists design wacky, whimsical and definitely wild salmon statues that swim throughout downtown Anchorage from early June through late August, and go to auction at season close during the annual Fish Fry & Buy dinner auction in September.
Reeling from successful runs in 2003, 2004 and 2005, the 2006 Wild Salmon on Parade will feature 20 four-foot, artistically transformed salmon sculptures.
Wild Salmon on Parade is designed as an annual festival, modeled after Cows on Parade in Chicago and the Pigs on Parade in Seattle. The event and surrounding activities increase community awareness and appreciation of salmon habitat, history and physical properties.
Each fish is sponsored by an organization or business. The 2005 auction generated $75,000 for local charities. The 2006 charities include Camp Fire USA Alaska Council, the Anchorage Concert Association and the Alaska Conservation Foundation.
This year’s annual Wild Salmon on Parade "Fish Fry and Buy" Auction takes place September 8, 2006 at the Sheraton Anchorage Hotel. Each Wild Salmon on Parade sculpture that was displayed in downtown Anchorage during 2006 will be offered in the live auction. There is also a silent auction throughout the evening. Doors open at 5:30, so put on evening wear or fishing gear and be a part of the fun. Tables of ten are available for $750. Individual tickets are $75, for tickets visit or call (907) 777-7248. www.wildsalmononparade.com/auction.htm Tickets must be purchased in advance.
